Bear 71 ist eine Art Dokumentation von Leanne Allison über eine Bärendame, die 11 Jahre lang mit allen möglichen technischen Mitteln überwacht wurde. Die Daten wurden schließlich in eine interaktive Visualierung gepackt und auf der Webseite könnt ihr nun damit herumspielen.

Miska Henner hatte für sein Projekt “Astronomical” die Idee, unser komplettes Sonnensystem maßstabsgetreu in einem Buch abzubilden wobei eine Buchseite einer Million Kilometer entspricht. Daraus wurden schließlich 12 Bände mit jeweils 500 Seiten.

Die Planeten sind natürlich auch maßstabsgetreu abgebildet. So braucht die Sonne die ersten beiden Seiten, die Erde ist auf Seite 155 im ersten Band, Jupiter auf Seite 283 im dritten Band und Pluto ganz am Ende auf Seite 6000.

Den Kurzfilm von Penny Lane meine ich schonmal irgendwo gesehen zu haben, hier jedenfalls noch nicht.

Gestern hat die NASA ihr Mars Science Laboratory aka den Curiosity Rover auf den Weg zum Mars geschickt, wo es schon im August 2012 landen wird. Im Video seht ihr wie das ablaufen soll, wobei ich bei dem Skycrane ja ein mulmiges Gefühl in der Magengegend verspüre, dass das schief gehen könnte.

In Focus hat dazu noch eine sehenswerte Bildergalerie vom Zusammenbau des Curiosity Rovers und der Atlas V Rakete, mit der er zum Mars transportiert wird.

The website SpaceLog opens up the original transcripts of early space exploration in an easily readable, searchable and linkable format. The available missions range from Vostok 1, the first human space flight, to Apollo 13, the mission with “a problem”. Included with most transcripts are photographs taken both from the ground and by the crew in space, as well as other information about the mission, and any problems that occurred.
